Dr. Senaka Welideniya [PhD, MSc, MSc, Pg. Cert, MAusIMM]

President - IESL WA (2022/23)

Senaka started his career as an Underground Mining Engineer. Then worked as a Senior Lecturer at the Mining & Minerals Engineering Dept at Moratuwa University before moving to Australia. Senaka has transformed to be a Mining Geotechnical Engineer after his MSc in Eng. Geology and PhD in Rock Mechanics. His first degree was MSc in Mining Engineering. Senaka has worked in Open Pit Mining, Consulting, as an academic and currently as an Inspector Geotechnical at Western Australias state mining regulatory body. He has worked in Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Burma and Australia. He has published numerous papers on "Jointed Rock Mechanics" and mining at many conferences and refereed journals. These papers cover wide spectrum of Geotechnical applications in underground and open pit mining including numerical modelling and ground suport. Senaka  is currently actively involved with regulatory compliance of underground and open pit mining as well as Tailings Storage Facilities. Read more about Senaka here.

Eng. Tharindu Weerasinghe [EMSc, MSc.Eng, BSc.Eng(Hons), CPEng, SMIEEE,  MIET, MACS, MIESL, MCSSL]

Tharindu is a Chartered Computer Engineer with over 15 years of industry experience in Information Technology inclusive Software R&D and IT Project Management. At present, Tharindu serves as the Operations Manager at Austal Ships Pty Ltd attached to its Technology Department and he overseas Product Support and work with the ERP IFS. Austal is a one of leading ship manufacturers in the world. Prior to Austal, Tharindu worked at BlackSwan Technologies, Seebo Networks Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, IFS R&D international and Interblocks Pvt Ltd in various capacities related to Software Research & Development. Tharindu plays different roles apart from his main scope of work, as a part time lecturer, researcher, mentor, writer, poet, emcee. Tharindu is a published author and a researcher.

Dr. Darshani Thotagamuwage [PhD, MSc, BSc.Eng (Hons)]

Darshani graduated from the University of Moratuwa in 2000 as a civil engineer. Soon after, she joined Ceylon Fishery Harbors Corporation and left in 2003 to pursue a higher education at the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, where she obtained an MSc in Natural Resources Management. After coming back in 2004, Darshani joined the Ministry of Health as a civil engineer. While she was there, Darshani was able to get a secondment to the Coast Conservation Department as a coastal engineer to complete her ‘Member of IESL’ accreditation. In 2007, Darshani joined the Lanka Hydraulic Institute as a research engineer/project manager and carried out a number of hydraulic physical and numerical modeling projects, both at local and international levels.

 In 2009, Darshani was awarded a full scholarship to read for a PhD in physical oceanography at UWA. Having completed her doctoral degree in 2014, Darshani joined the Oceanographic Services group in the Department of Transport (DoT) in 2015. Since then, she serves in different roles and contributes to the team with her specialised expertise in physical oceanography. At the moment Darshani works as the program leader of oceanographic services at DoT.

Apart from oceanographic data collection/management duties at DoT, Darshani particularly has interests and experiences in long-period waves and harbour seiching which was the major of her PhD study. She has published her research work in hi-index scientific research journals and presented her work at a number of national and international conferences.

Eng. Parakrama Sumanarathna (MSc, BSc, MIEEE, MIET; AMIESL)

Committee Member - IESL WA (2022/23)

Telecommunications & Network engineering professional with 25years + experience. Career spans across communications projects, telecom solution and service providers (Telstra, TitanICT, Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia, Cegetel Services, NEC), Satellite Navigation, Mining remote communication (BHP, Rio Tinto), Transportation (Perth Airport, Forrestfield Airport rail tunnel) and Oil & Gas (Woodside Energy Limited). Expertise in Radio Frequency (RF) coverage simulations, 4G, 3G and 2G Mobile Radio Access Network (RAN) implementations, Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) of VHF/UHF, 4G-LTE radio, and distributed antenna systems (DAS). Certified in CISCO – CCNA Routing & Switching, ePMP (Cambium Networks), Remote Pilot Licence (CASA). Rail Industry Worker, Mentum Planet 7.3 LTE Planning, ATDI HTZ Communications LTE and Wi-Fi Network Planning, etc. 

Eng. Yenuli Ranaweera (GradIEAust )

Yenuli graduated from Curtin University, Perth Western Australia in Bachelor of Engineering Civil Engineering with Honours in 2022. She is currently employed in Jacobs Engineering as a Graduate Civil Engineer in the Roads and Highways team. She has a skill set in designing highways and Sustainable consultancy in the Engineering Industry. Yenuli is planning to finish the graduate program at Jacobs in the end of 2023 and continue her career in the Pavement and Environmental Engineering.
